Site
South facing rear garden of a modern village house. The garden had been neglected by the prior owner and has been cleared of overgrown shrubs.
There are mature trees in surrounding gardens that partially frame the view and can be ‘borrowed’ to visually extend the garden into the landscape and avoid taking up valuable space inside the garden with large trees.
Requirement
• An attractive, varied and low maintenance garden with interest all year round
• Softer boundaries and greater access to the rear view
• Informal feel to coordinate with the weatherboarding on the house and the rural situation
Before

- The round lawn maximises the impression of space.
- The lower fence topped by trellis bridges the divide between the garden and the fields beyond.
- Climbers are starting to break up the solidity of the fence without taking up too much depth.
- Summer bedding fills the new corner beds while a permanent planting scheme is planned.
