Onsite sessions
Gardening by Design provides advice, design ideas and coaching in your own garden and specific to your needs. You set the agenda and typical visits include a mix and match of the following. You can even get together with a few friends and share the cost. If you need help that is not specifically mentioned here, please contact me to discuss. |

Visits can last as long as you like, but usually start with an hour for a small garden and one and a half to two hours for a larger garden. We will always discuss your requirement before a visit is scheduled and agree on time. It is generally better to have several short visits if you have a particularly challenging garden than one mega-session (recovery time for you and the garden!) and the cost is the same.
Plant survey Identify plants, discuss their cultivation and suitability. So you can begin to decide what you want to keep and what, if anything, you want to move or remove. | Coaching Explain a chosen subject using examples in your garden, such as pruning, understanding soil or plant selection. Also help to solve specific problems. |
Design ideas Ideas to improve or re-invent your whole garden or a single border. Discuss the practicalities as well as the look and feel you want to suit the needs of your family. Identify suitable plants | Maintenance plan Discuss the tasks needed to recover an overgrown garden and/or maintain an established garden. Demonstration of techniques such as regenerative pruning and splitting herbaceous plants. |
Follow-up documents
I am very happy to write up the results of our discussion, supply plant cultivation information or a plant list working at home following an on-site session. This will always be agreed at the time and the report will be sent to you, preferably by email, shortly after my visit. As a rule of thumb and depending on the size and complexity of your garden the subsequent write-up takes as long again as the on-site session or survey.
Plan Your Garden Program
Four sessions structured to plan your new garden covering What you have, What you want, Where to put it and What Plants to choose. As with individual coaching sessions, each lasts an hour (or up to two depending on garden size). Sessions are scheduled to suit you: the first three are recommended to be within a month; the Planting Plan can follow immediately or wait until any hard landscaping has been completed.
Charges
An hourly rate of £30 for on-site visits within the Sevenoaks area regardless of the number of people present (within reason!) or the subject of the visit. If you live further afield, I may need to add a little to the on-site visit fee for petrol and travelling time. Please contact me to discuss.
The same hourly rate for any work that I do at home, agreed in advance, usually at the end of the on-site visit. An invoice will be issued following an on-site session or receipt of the follow-up documentation. Payment is required by cash or cheque within 14 days. Related questions via telephone or email are free for a full month after the invoice date as long as payment is not overdue.
